Walter Lambe

Walter Lambe (b. ?1450–51, d. after Michaelmas 1504) was admitted as a clerk in the choir of St George’s Chapel, Windsor in January 1479, and later that year was appointed joint instructor of the choristers with one William Edmunds. He became the sole Informator choristarum at Christmas 1479, and held the post until he left Windsor in the mid 1480s; he returned to Windsor in 1492.

He was clearly a highly regarded composer, second only to John Browne in the number of compositions preserved in the Eton Choirbook. His six-voice O Maria plena gracia, which unusually sets a prose rather than a poetic tect, is the longest work in Eton.
